I was watching The Lost Boys movie again tonight.
Well it IS Halloween, and I love this movie, and I wondered what it is about these movies that brings us back to them again and again.
Is it the old thing of never age, never die, stay as you are forever, or is it something else?
I saw the tag line for the sequel to it, called Lost Boys, The Tribe, and it read:
Never grow old. Never die. Never know fear again.
That's when it hit me that perhaps one of the things people want from being a Vampire, (by this I mean the 'I wanna be a Vampyre and run with the night so come bite me' groupies) is to never know fear again. In the movies there is very little for a careful Vampire to fear. I know 'stake through the heart and being caught out in the daylight', but if you were careful that would never have to worry you, so you could easily live a life without fear.
I don't know about the rest of you but I could understand that if that is part of what they want, it sounds pretty good to me.

How do you imagine such things would be possible?

I don't imagine such things are possible, but I do imagine how great it would feel if they were. :)

I apologise for misunderstanding you.
I don't want this forum to become one of those places where beliefs like this are accepted. Eternal life and youth are myths that have no place in the physical world.
I think it's unrealistic to imagine such things when they can never be, however I do understand that such thoughts have a certain kind of appeal, especially today when things are going so badly for so many people.

I love that movie.

OH yeah? Who are you then? The flying nun?

Just genius.

I would love to never have to worry about anything again, but I know it's not realistic, it's just that some days the chance to exhale would make a nice change.
As for never aging and never dying, how come only Vampires get those perks? I think that's unfair. lol

Obviously we know that none of us really get those perks, it's only Hollywood make believe, but people in a bad place in their lives will try lots of crazy things to make their lives better, and thanks to the movie makers it's possible that some of them might think that being bitten and made into a Vampire would do that.
Sensible people believe Vampires are only myth, and we realise that being a Vampire couldn't really be like the movie image, but just imagine if you were the kind of person who believed the movies, lots of people do, and you were so desperate that you would try anything, and knew someone claiming they could turn you. Would you try it?
No need for doctors or dentists, no rent or any of the other normal everyday bills. Never to have to worry about being hurt or dying, and no fear of being out of work. Those are pretty powerful things to believe you can gain.
Of course once the enchantment has worn off and real life steps back in and slaps you with a wet fish you wake up to reality again feeling pretty foolish.
Not only are you not dead or one of the undead, you're not immortal, all powerful or pretty much invincible. You're still alive, still have all your responsibilities and problems, and you also have a very painful area on your neck/back/wrist where some joker took some of your blood promising this was all that was needed to make you a Vampire.
I'm sure there are times when we all wish life was easier, when we all wish we had more of the things we want and fewer of the problems. It's just a shame really that most of the time there are no quick fixes, no matter how much we're prepared to pay.

In a larger sense, I think things would be quite different without the fear of death...

Being Mortal is something I think is hardwired into us. I mean, how many of use believe in the immortality of souls, how many further believe that after death we'll just continue to be what we are, sans a physical body anyway.

With that, we still fear death, if not consciously we do as a reflex.

I agree with you, up to a point.
Being mortal is something I accept when I am in a physical body, and although I believe that my essence is immortal, (for me it's a matter of transmigration rather than re-incarnation), I know that the death of my body is inevitable, and I fear. But it's not death I fear, it's dying. The actual physical act of dying is by all accounts a pretty unpleasant process for most people. So while I don't fear death or being dead, dying is a different thing altogether. I'm really not looking forward to that.

Unfortunately nothing makes everything all better. Though there have been times in my life when I wished something would.
