I just wondered if they were all nice creatures or if there was an evil side to them?
I know the good ones don't live in flowers and collect nectar and all the other rubbish that Enid Blyton wrote about, but I haven't heard anything about any evil ones has anyone else?

I don't think that all Fae were even nice creatures.

It is said in a lot of mythology never to cross one of the Fair Folk, not to mention that Trolls and Banshees all fall under the heading of Fae.

Fae have been reputed to be fickle and to be true to their word or to your word as much as a crafty and malevolent ambulance chasing lawyer. If there's a way to exploit the wording for their own benefit, then they will.

I'll see if I can't locate a few more specific examples, however know that there is indeed a dark side to the Fair Folk.

From what Ive learnt Echo, it is our mistake that has caused this seeming divide into thinking that the fae are evil or good. They are said to be purely wild beings,so in essence it would seem that our classification would not apply. Like if a lion kills a zebra we do not see the lion as evil simply because we accept that this is its nature and it cannot be judged for it. In much the same way I beleive we should not seek to classify any being like the fae into good or bad but instead accept them and avoid circumstances that would force them to act unkind.

I hope that helps, but its just my point of view

That is an excellent description Serenity but I think it covers more than just the fae.
Dragons are traditionally the ones who "do whatever is neccessary" but there are others too, the Wraith and the majority of Shadow are like that.
I certainly share the same point of view although I think being in a body mellows me somewhat.

Like Serenity said it isn't about good and bad it's about nature. (You said it so much better than me Ser.)
I think that energy is universal and it isn't helpful to try and divide anything into good and evil. A thing could do an evil thing for a good reason and a good thing for an evil reason. An action could be seen by some as good and yet for others the same action could be a very bad thing. It's a lot about perspective and how you view it.

Well since evil is defined as something morally bad or wrong, how do you define something or someone as evil?
You are judging them on your moral standards and finding them wanting because they don't subscribe to the same set of morals as you do.
Society has a set of moral rules and ideals everyone is expected to at least try to live up to. If you disagree with them or fail to measure up then you could be described as evil. So it seems to me that a lot of the time evil can be anything that does not conform to what has always been accepted.
Paganism, witchcraft, any religion that isn't mainstream, and for some people things like electricity, buttons, and modern conveniences. Even rock music was considered evil once, in fact it still is in some US states.
Evil is relative, and although there are many evils that are widely accepted, murder, rape etc, there are endless examples where evil is proclaimed by just a few individuals.

:clapping:
That was an excellent post Shade. I was nodding and agreeing all the way through.
Evil is a personal concept based on our own experiences, thoughts, feelings and judgements so it's sure to be different for each person.
One example I like is that for some abortion is evil and for others being denied the right to make their own choices of what to do with their lives and their bodies is evil.
Who is right?
In my opinion they all are because they're all making the right choice for them. Like evil, abortion isn't about who's right and who's wrong it's about each person deciding for themselves.
