This afternoon in pyschology class we were discussing the actual theory of vampires, were and fallen, it wasnt my idea i swear when suddenly this girl goes off on how any one who beleived they were anything other than human were not sane i almost told the little who was insane.

I am trying to remain calm under pressure but this hiding thing is not working out

Ive counted to a hundred a hundred times and if it wasnt for the threat of my aunt getting me an exorcist i was so close to ripping that girl okay ill stop now! i just needed to get that off my chest.

Some people treat things like this in that way so that they don't feel frightened of it Serenity.
It is purely a defence mechanism for something which they cannot understand. Lots of films shoot the Alien visitors first and ask them if they were friendly later in a similar sort of knee jerk reaction.
Generally it's best to just let people like that get on with it and nod knowingly or better still pass them off without a second glance (that bothers them )
Nodding while making it really obvious you're not listening anymore works too and helps you.

Some people can be neive. I think that is horrible. However had she have known she most likely wouldn't have said anything. Then again even had she not calling believers insane is rather rude.

I would have yelled at her or punched her but anyway just laugh at it. it really helps. thats how my little... thing was solved. I just laughed at them when i ran into them. They call me vampire girl and two tailed freak(Im sorry!it slipped!) and all that and I just laughed at them. I dont know why but they backed down. right after one of them tried to hurt me. i just let them know how stupid they are to let it get to them.lol man im in trouble when i get back in school... hope this helps abit .

A lot of it comes from people just not understanding. In a very strong Republican community, one might be raised to believe that anyone who actually believes Democrats must be brain damaged or totally insane, and this could be reversed in a strongly Democrat favoring community. I've met people who were dumbfounded that there actually are people who legitimately support the Republican party and have reasons that are intelligent for doing so.

Were I in that class I would have asked what insanity means. I could see the person who believe they are an Angel to be sane, and I could believe that if they also run around making preparations for the Apocalypse and stalking/hunting people they believe to be "Demons" to be insane.

Beliefs don't make people insane, practices do. Are any of us insane for having a belief? No more insane than anyone with any religious belief.

It sounds personal to you because you are one of those people she was talking about, but she didn't know that. She simply believes that people who think like that are insane, but to be perfectly honest with you Serenity as far as people like her are concerned we probably are insane.
If we are measuring sanity by the standards to which they set it, then we would not pass, because we do not think like they do. However if we are measuring sanity by our standards then they would be the ones that would not pass.
Sanity, like beauty, truth, worth and so very many other things, depends almost entirely upon the perspective and standards of the person who has set themselves up to judge such things.
For all people such as this I always smile to myself and let them rant. They only know things from their point of view, and their point of view is the only one they care about, so even debating with them only gives them more chances to shout about what they believe, without ever listening to another side to the question. You would be wasting your time trying to convince them that they might be wrong, as they cannot concieve of a world where that might be so.
Smile Serenity, no matter what they say OR how loudly they say it, you know the truth about yourself. In the end that's all that matters.

There are always going to be stupid, hurtful people, saying stupid, hurtful things wherever you go.
Some consider themselves human, some consider themselves Otherkin.
You just have to be aware that saying they are Otherkin does not mean that they are not stupid, bigotted, uncompromising, judgemental, or any of the other awful things it is possible to be, and that saying they are human does not make them necessarily all those things.
Approach each person on a one to one basis, and make your decisions about them based on them alone. If you can do that then there is less chance you will be used or fooled, changed or hurt and disappointed because you based who you expected them to be on what they said they were, and they turn out to be different to your expectations.

since its getting harder and harder, dont do what i did!!! trust me it wont work.(not talking about the laughing thing.) I'm not sure if i can help you with the 'friends freaking out when i smile' thing. i get a kick out of it because id never .... well i wouldnt hurt them. try smiling more and telling them 'its not like im gonna hurt you.'uhh this helps sometimes listen to music that gives off the same emotion as you feel then listen to music that gives off the oppisite emotion or listen to your favorite song. it should balance your emotions out. and if you can you could take your anger out by punching a tree or building or anything that isnt human. if none of this works... tell me and ill think of something else.

Uhhh im just adding on a little more after thinking about what i do to calm myself.

I find mostly that they don't shut up because they enjoy saying mean and hurtful things, especially in places where they expect everyone will agree with what they are saying and so give them a chance to say even more mean and hurtful things.

They just like it, so they don't shut up.

Punching bags work very nicely, especially when its shaped like a person im cool now though i don't stay angry for long unless im thoroughly aggravated

Has anyone tried one of the martial arts.
Karate, Kung fu, and Shorinji kempo teach not only self defence but control.
The better "artistes" are incredibly calm and serene people with phenomenal emotional control. Keeps you super fit and calms you down.
