Hmm first.....I am not a misplaced essence I chose to be in a human body for a while.
I have no true physical body, although Teratorns do come pretty close.

funnily enough there is a Toltec story about reincarnation which supports Kes's theory. The story is one of the bases of Toltec religious teachings and says that Sorcerers who attain a great enough level of perception will be chosen by the great Eagle to be taken aside and given the choice to reincarnate with all their memories and abilities from previous lives intact. The other souls are then "consumed" by the eagle to become large body of energy from which other human spirits are taken and made into people.
Oddly enough the ones taken by the eagle for reincarnation invariably have animal spirits, some of the common ones being crows, Jackals, wolves and snakes. Interesting huh?
Puts a shadow on the assertion that otherkin is a new belief.

Otherkin as a term dates back to the starseed mailing communities of the 1950's, older than most of the Vampire Houses we know today. There are even references in the Bible and the Book of Enoch of Angels taking Human form. At a stretch, the Nephalim qualify as being inhuman in many capacities, if they exist(ed).

I wonder what we were before the term Otherkin was invented by someone?
Perhaps just Vampires, Weres, Unicorns, Elves etc.

If 'Otherkin' only goes back as far as the 1950's does that mean there haven't been organised groups for very long?
The internet is responsible for much of the gathering that goes on today, because it makes it so easy. I know there were groups before the internet, but obviously gathering together then was a bit harder. otherkin/lol.gif
So did gatherings take place before the 1950's and so bring about the need for a name for us all, or did the name come first in order to give the seperate persons something to unite under?

The starseed community grew and formed largely as a result of hype after the alleged crash in Roswell, NM. It was a community linked by newsletters mainly. I'm sure there were actual gatherings on occasion though.

Do you ever wonder why many Therians, many Vampire Houses, many pagan covens all think Otherkin are pretty out there?

No I generally don't try to figure out the mental workings of people like that.
Intolerance is everywhere, in every community of beings, and there will unfortunately always be those who believe that they know better how to live your life than you do. I have met some myself.
I tend to settle on the fact that it is my life and ignore the people who would 'help me' by commenting on what they think of how I live it.
They really should have enough going on in their own lives to occupy them, and if they don't, then perhaps that might be an important matter that they need to look into much more urgently than they need to find fault with what I am doing!

It's an interesting thought, organized otherkin groups and when they started. I imagine that there have been therian groups meeting at furry conventions as far back as those have existed. As it would be seen as a relatively safe place to be 100% yourself (obviously not saying therian=furry). I imagine people have always wanted to find and be around like minded people since the dawn of mankind. So in that vein, I think there have probably been otherkin groups gathering since forever. The size of which are negligible. Of course I doubt you'd find documented evidence to support the theory, so we may never truly know how far back otherkin communities reach.

No I don't think they have a mailing list or a members signing in book. otherkin/687.gif

But they must have known how to contact each other, or how would they have known where and when the meetings were?
I suppose we could speculate, mewspaper adverts perhaps? But of course we'll never know for sure.

No I can see that you're not saying Therians are furries, but rather that furries would provide excellent camouflage for a Therian or two. They could go unnoticed among this group, when they would stand out from everyone else. That would be quite nice I think just to have a chance to relax. But I could be wrong. smile.gif

Byakko- 08-23-2008
It would be nice indeed...if you could deal with sweating like crazy in a fursuit otherkin/lol.gif I doubt there'd be a mailing list from way back when as I'm pretty sure otherkin would've been burned at the stake for witchcraft lol.

Kes- 08-24-2008
Not in the 1950's surely? lol

Sorry I couldn't resist. I'll try harder in future I promise. smile.gif

I think you might be right about the furry suit, I hadn't considered that. I don't think I'm that keen on sweating. otherkin/8).gif
Would it be that bad do you think? It probably would, huh?

Anyway I still do wonder how the word got out about those meetings. Maybe none of us would be here without them to light the way all those years ago.
History is fascinating don't you think?
The problem with it is that I want to know all about it, and don't have any way to find out for sure.
Hmm. Now is the time when I could do with some of that Otherkin past life memory stuff to help me out. smile.gif

Back to research books from the library and the internet I guess. otherkin/read.gif

I think, from what is in my head at the moment, that Starseeds are the people who believe that the whole human race are desended from a race of aliens who have been visiting this planet for centuries, and the crash in Roswell New Mexico was then taken over by the military and designated as Area 57.
Is that right?

Byakko- 08-24-2008
Starseeds are generally people who believe they descended from aliens or are some kind of alien essence in a human body. I don't think they all think the entire human race is alien in origin.

Kes- 08-24-2008
Right, as far as you know they just think that about them, not all of us. smile.gif

Here comes that phrase again.

Thanks Byakko. otherkin/687.gif

Has anyone been and looked to see where you go?

It can't be too hard to find out really just tune into the right wavelength and off you go. You're not going to get into trouble for looking!

I'm sure someone has, but since everyone has their own beliefs about where they go and what happens to them then, and they're so set in this thinking that they are not open to anything else, then what would be the point of telling anyone what you saw?
I mean everything that has been described here has been altered, interpreted, re-interpreted and mis-represented by the next person to post.
It is never going to be a thing people can agree on because your death is such a personal thing, whether you have one or many, that what happens to you then is personal too.
For me it doesn't matter enough to argue my corner about it.
I have what I believe and though I wouldn't mind sharing what I believe I wouldn't want to be drawn into an arguement about it.
It's my personal time, and whether I come back or not it will be my last moment to be the me I am right now, and so I don't think I would want anyone else telling me what I should expect to happen then, or that I am wrong to believe what I do about the most personal moment I will probably ever have.
