I don't understand what is wrong with hunting for fun?
I like to hunt for fun, I love to follow a trail, and then track, spy, and chase my prey.
I love hunting and hunting is fun.
Hiding, stalking, scenting the air, dodging, avoiding being seen or smelt myself. In this way I have hunted small children, milkmen, cows, dogs, horses, cats, dogs, my friends and my enemies, paper bags and leaves blown around by the wind amongst many other things. Even my own shadow on more than one occasion and sneaking up on that is no easy task let me tell you.

Harming and killing........Now THAT I would only do for food.

But to me hunting is something I do to pit my wits against a 'something else'. It doesn't matter what it is. It is in no ultimate danger and even when chasing I don't run it into the ground, that's no fun. I just chase for a while and then switch 'prey' and hunt something else. It is a game and one I enjoy very much. It sharpens my senses and tunes my inner being to a higher frequency. But apart from the 'prey' being aware that it is being followed and the game of chase which often leaves them a little winded there is nothing malevolent about my hunts.
Like otherkin hide and seak, it's just a game for me. Perhaps occasionally a little unkind, but not dangerous for anyone.

right on. that's what i was trying to get at. I love the hunt. I've never gone and stalked deer and other wild game since i'm in urban society. But i love the hunt none the less. None Kin are the best. They assume so much. I'm a 5'3 tiny girl with no real muscles to show for and i'm occasionally clumsy (i think it's the lack of tail, haha) and people don't seem to take a second glance at me when i'm 'hunting'. hehehe. it's fun scaring other people. they have such interesting reactions. I have this 6'4" guy friend who's afraid of me now! i couldn't help myself. otherkin/lol.gif He was so much fun to stalk too. hehehe. aaw, now i want to go play but i have to work otherkin/paperbag.gif meh.
but i definitely do not approve of killing for fun. it's so pointless.

Ah now there is nothing wrong with that kind of hunting.
I have done a share of that too.
I used to like standing still and waiting until someone passed to move and scare them silly.
I also really enjoy disappearing in plain view, which involves maneouvering myself around peoples field of attention so that they don't realise I have moved or in some cases that I am there at all, then I step back into their view and make them jump out of their skin otherkin/8).gif .

I am horrendously clumsy Katie I miss doorways on a regular basis. My favourite though is falling over things that are not there, That one almost always gets a comment otherkin/censored.gif .

i've figured out if i concentrate on having a tail like i do when i'm aware of my wings i balance better. actually if i do either i'm a bit more graceful. haha yay! it's kind of embarressing being a cat without a cats grace haha.

I was always a graceful child, just like my mother. She glides everywhere and everything looks smooth, unhurried and effortless. I admire her natural grace and charm very much. I wish I could be more like her.

I apparently have a very nice walk and very graceful hands and fingers. So I am half way there.
But I also fall quite gracefully aswell. otherkin/lol.gif

I am glad your tail helps you with your balance Katie. If you are more graceful with either your wings or your tail, what are you like with both? Does that double the grace or disappear it altogether?

Katie- 09-12-2007
huh... i don't know. I've never tried before. It usually takes a lot of concentration to focus on my tail/wings being there as well as what i am doing and where i am going that i've never attempted to focus on two... I'll give it a shot later and let you know!

That's going to be quite a juggling act with your concentration Katie. I'm certain I would fall flat on my face. LOL

I wish you much better luck. smile.gif

I am sure if you do fall, either of you, you will both do it with so much charm, style and grace that others merely stare in admiration. otherkin/lol.gif

The only animals that I've ever found that the majority like me is cats. Being I am am were-panther. That now makes sense to me...
I do like horses but I have only ever been able to get one to trust me like once and I had a bucket of food then. Dogs usually dislike me and cows love to just get in my way on purpose...

I would absolutely LOVE being able to track something or stalk it. I would enjoy learning how. And I live out in the middle of the country. like 275 acres of land that belongs to my grandpa and even more that I can roam around on that doesn't belong to us. I would not even mind the thing about me being allergic to everything green. I would just love to be able to do that. I just have nowhere to start learning.

Cats however do seem to like me more... I have been able to get like several wild cats to come up to me so I could get them out of bad weather... I also stood outside with a stray cat holding it in the middle of winter for like four hours when I could have gone inside... I just couldn't stand for the poor kitty to freeze when I was so warm...

But yeah, I would enjoy learning to track, stalk, hunt, etc... If anyone has any tips for me.

Thanks,

P.S. Sorry, I know these posts are old, I just figured I might try to give the discussion some life and get some answers on the hunting thing.

Try getting a book on animal sign from the library.
You can work on anything you can find there being sign of.....even mice.
But if you can find say hoof prints or a broken twig with fur on it then you are really onto something.
Scout around and see if you can see anything else, follow the direction the twig is pointing and look at the grass to see if it's flattened or mud for prints, use your sense of smell and there might be urine or droppings that you can smell. with a bit of practice you will even be able to tell how old they are by how fresh they smell or how dry they are ...things like that.
probably the lost important two things when you're tracking are try and work your way up wind so they can't smell you and don't silhouette yourself against the skyline as they will surely see you then.
