Perhaps our Were Therian friend is feeling the effects of the full moon which approaches?
A lack of humour would be most understandable under those circumstances.

Camille, If that is your definition of Demon. Then that sounds a lot of me lol. ~Legitimize |
I think that was the point, By 99% of the world populations standards we are the Demons and to them the name means something.
The name doesn't mean anything to us because we are not like the archetypal description of a demon.
ASnd therefore because the description is so far from the truth then the actual name Demon means nothing even to the people that believe it to be the name for a vile, pure evil, ugly, malevolent dark souled blackness from the pits of hades.
Because there aren't any of those the name doesn't mean squat.
There are however some pretty unpleasant articles out there but you cannot call them Demons because the description is way off the mark.
I have a friend who calls himself OtherThing because even he doesnt know what he is.
He (like many others) is not a demon because, he is one of the nicest most pleasant and helpful people you could possibly wish to meet.
He just looks a bit different thats all.

I think that's an excellent way to think of them.

Lady C.
Yes, bad spirits are bad.
Something I think is interesting: In the general area of computers, a Daemon is a process or program that sits there in the background waiting for something to call upon it. It then proceeds to do it's job which is generally to help the person who called it.

I'm like that sometimes. (No I am NOT a 4 year old!!

I'm going to disagree with the notion of Demons being evil and despicable creatures. There are some that are, but those are the few that made the reputation for the many.
Demons are beings of Chaos, and no the church does not consider anything that isn't an Angel up in Heaven to be a Demon, misconception right there based off the old church that ran the inquisitions and squished religions underfoot to try and hold power.
As far as more in depth information on Demons, I'm going to link to some of Kahoku's information:

I didn't mean to, I meant to delete one of mine and deleted yours by mistake. I am so sorry.
Anyway this is what she wrote.

well these are what I found about the bible relationship to Demons. http://www.gotquestions.org/demons.html
This one was written by a reverand and includes a 'deliverance from demons first aid kit'. LOL http://www.loveallpeople.org/deliverance.html
This one I particularly like as it quotes from the King James bible and from Christian Scriptures and Jewish writings. http://www.religioustolerance.org/dem_bibl.htm
I personally have nothing against Demons, and would not argue that there are Demons who are beings of Chaos, but I do not believe that all are, any more than I believe that all Angels are beings of harmony. I believe that in every race there are three groups. One to do good, one to do no good, and one to do nothing but watch *Milton Keynes* freeze over. LOL
But that the major religious groups have no love for Demons at all. That I do believe.
Darkness. :gwere |
I agree with Terro. My definition of demon is a creature of chaos. I don't see them as "evil" or "anti angels" or something...in my book they as a race aren't the eternal antagonists that the Church has often painted them as. That's not to say that there aren't exceptions, but as a race of beings, that's how I see them.
The word Demon is derived from the Greek word Daimon, and was the word the Ancient Greeks used to describe the supernatural beings that for them acted as mediators between mortals and gods, they could be good or malevolent.
These Daimons were described by the same Ancient Greeks as Creatures of Chaos.
But in Greek the word Chaos does not mean disorder, it means

| space, the primal emptiness from which all things were made. |
And so Demons are, from the first recorded history of them anyway, a good or malevolent supernatural being, from the primal emptiness of space.
I am not going to argue with the Ancient Greeks.

So that would be us then.

hmm. I could answer some questions. I'll try to think of some basic ones. But if you have some feel free to ask. I'm not a *Milton Keynes* born so I wouldn't know about them, cept their behavior which I don't care for.
1. What is a demon? We are a lot like what previous posters have said before. We are beings just like everyone else.
2. Do demons kill for fun? Some do and some don't. I myself don't kill for fun. I just get the thrill from killing, if that makes any sense (mind you, my hands are clean this life). Some of us go out of our way, while others are smarter than that.
3.(a)Do demons center around any one element? Yes, I myself center around water, but I've also grown a bit into wind. It depends on what environment the demon was born in. I myself was born around a lot of water, hence water demon. Fire demons grow around Mountains/Volcanoes. Etc.
(b)Where do demons live? Demons are very versatile, we can live and adapt like a lot of animals here, so really we can live anywhere.
4. Do demons have sex? Of course. It's in our nature to mate and produce offspring. And we see it more as an act of beauty and creation. There's really no such thing as a (forgive this if inappropriate) "One Night Stand" for us. Once we choose our partner, we stay with them till death.
5. Honor? Honor to a demon is probably his most treasured trait. Some demons follow codes given by them, as well as ones they set for themselves. One such code is suicide. If one commits an act of suicide, he is no longer fit to be called a demon, and will simply become nothing.
6. Do demons live alone or in communities? We tend to live in communities. Some live in tribes or clans, and others live in kingdoms. However there is the occasional wanderer or hermit you find. It really is all a matter of preference.
7. Do demons ally themselves with different races? It all depends really on the views of the tribe/clan/kingdom. If they choose to ally themselves with another race then it's fine.
8. You said something about kingdoms right? So who runs them a king? Kinda, except they take on a title "Lord" instead, and act more like a prince, if you will. You know when a demon is a Lord just by looking at his physical attributes. I (yes, I'm a demon Lord...) have six large wings. While as a common citizen probably would have two fin like wings.
That's about as much as I can think of. Sorry if they seem completely obvious. If you have questions feel free to ask and I'll gladly answer.
hultsimer, quick question.
On point number five. Might you explain how something can cease to exist and become nothing just because of HOW they die?
Just curious, hope you don't mind me asking.

That, for me at least is still rather complicated. I'm sorry I cannot give an answer D:
