Hello again Dragonslorefury, welcome home. smile.gif

I hope your holiday was as wonderful and exciting as you were expecting it to be, and that you had a marvellous time.

Where did you go? What did you do? What did you see? What was your most favourite thing about the whole experience or was it all so great that you can't pick just one?

I'm thankful you made it home safely, and it is good to see you posting here again now you're back, and as you can see I'd love to hear any news you felt like sharing about your holiday. smile.gif

Wow, thank you for the welcome back otherkin/870.gif

Where did you go? What did you do? What did you see? What was your most favourite thing about the whole experience or was it all so great that you can't pick just one?

I went on a mini tour of the U.S.A. of sorts- I went to New York to go to the art museums- MOMA, the guggenheim and the Mett. Then I went to San Fransisco (fishermans wharf) where I went to MOMA san fran style and little japan as my part of the holiday and Alcatraz as my parents part. Then I went to Anaheim and Disney (my mother's part of the holiday) where I went disney for 2 days then universal and sea world.

My favourite part has to be seeing a piece of art in the Mett that I adore done by Damien Hirst my all time favourite artist. It's called the physical impossibility of death in the mind of someone living. I must have spent an hour circling it and returning back to it. Followed closely to that was the Dali and film exhibition in MOMA new york and discovering a new-to-me artist Louise Bourgeois which I quite liked. Oh and I loved the manga shop in little Japan in which I overspent massively on Manga books. otherkin/angel_sm017.gif

Disney was fun in a completly different way, it was very much for my mother who is Disney orientated and Winnie the Pooh obsessed. But the rides can be fun and there was alot of nightmare before christmas merchandise. However spending 13 hours straight there was very excessive ^_^'

Overall it was great, thank you for welcoming me back but I won't be around for long- On Friday i'm going away for three days to a LARPing event. Also fun otherkin/687.gif

Oh it sounds like you had a wonderful time, and I'm so glad. It sounds like your mum had a pretty good time too, 13 hours of Disney world, she must be some huge fan of his!

Where is the LARP event? We went to one (some freinds and I) at a local battle site, a re-enactment of the battle, and we had a great time. We watched a man making musket balls and even managed to talk him into parting with a few. smile.gif
Have a great time, and we'll see you when you get home, again!. otherkin/687.gif

It's in Bristol,
this is more of a fantasy LARP. My partner introduced it to me and I tagged along once and now i'm going back.

I must admit i'm not too fond of the fighting or very good at it- my first character died on the first day- But I love the medieval vibe. Seeing all the people in their costumes and just the whole thing it's so surreal and interesting.

I also use the event to draw portraits of people for money (in character money of course) which I don't usually do. I was actually employed to draw a picture of this man called Lord Heart secretly- He didn't know I was drawing him, his group had commisioned me, he also hated mercenaries (me) and I wasn't allowed to make it obvious that I was drawing him.

It must have been the most interesting drawing I have ever done. I had to literally wander around him from afar, remember what little I had seen of him and gather the rest from people around me who knew him better than I had to piece it all together from memory and word of mouth. It actually turned out really well I thought.... but I wasn't going to risk going up to him and asking XP

ComeToMe- 07-16-2008
Stalking him in order to draw him? That must have been incredibly difficult. Did the people who commisioned you to draw him like it?

If you decide to join in again I hope you have more luck and live longer this time. smile.gif
What is your outfit like?
The link is fantastic, thankyou. I would love to go to one of their events. They look marvellous.

Dragonslorefury- 07-17-2008
Yup they liked it and when I asked him out of character what he thought he said he liked it to so great success ^_^

Well last year I just woar a skirt and a top because I was just tagging along but this year i'm investing in a robe and boots (because it was incredibly diffricult walking in the mud in trainers last year).

I'm hoping I live longer too- the kid that got me killed isn't there this year so here's hoping, plus i'm a healer and people generally try to keep them alive and out of combat (hooray).

Here's a vid I made from the photos last year-

When it says "impersonate clark gabel" the guy in it with his arm around the woman is Lord Heart whom I had to draw ^_~

SolitaryMoonlight- 07-17-2008
Oh my, they looked like a fascinating bunch.

And you had to draw the guy with the horns?? That must have been quite a challenge.
I wonder did him being in character and so therefore larger than life so to speak, make the drawing of him easier or harder?

Good luck with the mud, from the amount of rain we've had lately there should be plenty of it around this year too.
Have fun. smile.gif

Dragonslorefury- 07-17-2008
Yeah it's a bit weird when you first go there. One guy was in a full beast man outfit and followed by a women who was rather creepy and pure white. He was interesting and her even more so seeing as all she did was circle you with wide eyes whilst panging bells that were on her fingers. That was a first for me. I also encountered one person who called himself the painted man- he would come upto you and try and convince you that something he done meant that you owed him money.

As for lord heart's horns he wasn't the hardest to draw- the hardest person I had to draw was a guy in a full japanese crow mask >_<

Heart was very much larger than life and it meant that going too close was a risk, therefore making drawing him a huge challenge. At one point we (me and my partner/bodyguard) tried to sneak into his tribes camp (they like us he doesn't) in order to catch a better glimpse and all I heard was "GET THOSE MERCINARIES OUT OF HERE!!!" and we just automatically turned around and walked out as fast as we could. When I talked to him out of character he was actually quite nice and not so loud.

Well it's been sunnier this year then last so heres hoping the mud is not so....muddy.

Bad news for me though my sword fighting skills haven't got any better.... infact i'm so bad that my partner resolved to just teach me how to defend myself long enough for me to survive. Whilst practicing he manged to get a head shot in and it hit my glasses which slashed into the side of my nose, so now I have a huge diagonal wound there T_T

I'm doomed.

OK so, you said you're back from this brilliant sounding place.
How did it go??
You didn't post to say if you had a good time or not?
I'd love to hear all about it. smile.gif
Please.

Did you get your sunny mud? otherkin/lol.gif
And I have heard that if you have battle scars you get more respect from the other warriors so maybe it will make them scared of you?

I wish I could have gone, I would have loved it I just know it. otherkin/687.gif

Dragonslorefury- 07-22-2008
Ah patience.
I'm going to post pictures as well as the story, but first I have to photocopy the pictures.
Although I was say this year it was brilliant sunshine and I survived. XD

ComeToMe- 07-22-2008
I am glad you had such a good time, and that you survived. smile.gif

I'm looking forward to seeing the pictures and hearing about it very much.

Dragonslorefury- 07-22-2008
Most of the pictures are of the 20 man tournament that happened but I assure some good stories will be soon to come.
