VAMPIRE MYTHS.

• Vampires make you one of them by drinking your blood ..............No.
• Vampires make you one of them by allowing you to drink their blood .................No.
• Vampires die when you push a stake through their hearts .......Of course they do. Everyone would! A stake through the heart would kill anything.
• Vampires burn up and turn to dust/ash when exposed to sunlight ............No.
• Vampires can be killed by fire ..............Yes. Everyone can!
• Vampire's can be killed by removing their head ........... Well yes. Could anyone live without a head?
• Vampires drink blood ...........Yes some do, but not all. Some 'feed' on the energy naturally given away by the world around them. Please see the section on Psi/Psy feeding for further information.
• Vampires, if feeding on a human or other physical creature will always kill the victim/donor ........................No. Many donors for blood drinking vampires are girlfriends/boyfriends/partners/spouses or really good friends. They give their blood freely out of love or friendship. They do not suffer for it and they do not die.
• Vampires hate garlic ..........Like all other races, some do, but some vampires love garlic.
• Vampires cannot eat/do not need to eat 'real food' ..............No. Although often a vampire will have stomach/eating issues, their bodies need sustenance just like any other. Vampires must eat 'normal' food to live.
• Vampires never age ...............No. Vampire's age just like everyone, though many vampires age more slowly, and many look far younger than their years.
• Vampires have fangs ...............No, not usually naturally. Although some have had fangs dentally grafted onto their natural teeth.
• Vampire's must be invited into your home or they cannot enter ........Not necessarily. Polite vampires would need an invitation, as would polite creatures of any kind. But, like all other races, not all vampires are polite.
• Vampires have no reflection ............Yes they do.
• Vampires hate mirrors ................No.
• Vampires are burned by/allergic to/frightened of crosses/crucifixes .................... No
• Vampires are burned/disfigured by holy water or water that has been blessed ........No.
• Vampires have no image in photographs .................Yes they do.
• Vampires have to sleep during the day .............No.
• Vampires function better at night .............Yes, a lot do, but by no means all.
• Vampires have the ability to fly ...............No.
• Vampires can turn into bats .................No.
• Vampires can turn into wolves ....................No.
• Vampires are inherently evil .............No. Vampires as a race are the same as every other race, some great, some good, some bad.
• Vampires must sleep in a coffin filled with the soil of 'the mother country' ...........No.
• Vampires must sleep in a coffin ..............No.
• Vampirism can be cured .....................No. Would you want to be cured of having blue eyes, brown hair, or freckles? Vampirism is something else you are, as well as possibly a blue eyed blonde, or a curly-haired brunette, or a tall red head with freckles.
• Vampire skin is unnaturally pale ............A lot of vampires (though by no means all) are sensitive to the sun. Finding that their eyes have difficulty dealing with bright sunlight, and that often their skin burns very easily.
• Vampires are monstrously deformed .................No.
• Vampires become deformed when angered ...........No.
• Vampires have claws/overly long fingernails ............. No, not all. Some do purposely grow their nails very long, but it takes dedication and a great deal of patience.
• Vampire's hearts do not beat ...............Yes they do.
• Vampire's do not need to breathe ...............Yes they do.
• Vampires no longer want sex ..........Yes they do.
• Vampires are very sexual beings .............Yes, many of them are.
• Vampires cannot have/father children ............Yes they can.
• Vampirism is some kind of virus ...........No. No more than humanism is.
• Vampires have highly tuned senses ..................Not just vampires. Many otherkin have acute senses of sight, smell, etc. Many otherkin exhibit empathic abilities. Please see the section on empathic abilities/empathy for further information.
• Vampires have a sense about them that animals pick up on, and often find threatening ....................... This is not typical just for vampires. All otherkin may find that animals sense their kin-ness and (depending on the animal) can sometimes find that feeling threatening.
• Vampires are stronger than humans ..................Yes they are often slightly stronger, but it is not the super-human strength from the movies.
• Vampires get stronger as they get older ...........No, like any other race they get more knowledgable as they get older. This knowledge makes them smarter and often mentally stronger, but physically aging makes no difference to their strength.
• Vampires can move without making a sound ..........No. They do often move very quietly, but not completely without sound.
• Vampires can walk through walls ............No. Vampires must find an open door/window or walk around just like everyone else.
• Vampires move at a super fast speed ...........No, not especially.
• Vampires can control your mind with their gaze and their will ...........No. Although people will often do things to please them, it is always of their own free will. There is no mind control involved.
• Vampires can vanish at will ............No.
• Vampires are solitary creatures who cannot share space with others ........... No, although many vampires do have problems with crowds, this is much more to do with their empathic abilities than any anti-social issues. Please see the section on empathic abilities/empathy for further information.
• Vampires and werewolves hate each other .....................No.
• Vampires are immune to diseases like the common cold/viruses and not affected by things like toothache and broken bones .............No. But this is one myth I wish was true!!!
• Vampire bones mend them selves when broken ..............Yes. Don't everyones?
• Vampires heal faster than others ..............No. Vampires heal faster than some others, but not all.
• Vampires hide themselves and their existence from human society ............Yes we do.
