Abandoned Faith- 09-30-2007
I have been reading books about Vampires and watching movies about the for a long time now, and I have recently begun looking at RPGames. These last ones particularly Vampire 'The Masquerade'.
This has prompted me to wonder if any of the things I have found in any of these are 'for real' or if it is all made up.
And now I am also wondering if anyone else has thought these things, or if anyone has any input on what I'm wondering?

Well I've found that not so much for vamps because I don't know that much about them but for werewolfs in the media and in games the only things that are moderatly true are accidents

I couldn't say what is or isn't truth and what is fictional, that would be something you would have to ask Camille or one of the other vamps around the board. But personally, I love most of that stuff. For quite some time, I was big into RPing "Vampire: The Masquerade" quite a bit, and I still love old vampire movies. My 3 main favorites are "Queen Of The Damned", "Interview With A Vampire", and the best classic vampire movie ever "Brahm Stokers Dracula". Anyways, just my two cents, though I don't really think i answered your question to begin with lol.

Look into it and see if you can find anything you know to be fact
DarkeDesire- 01-31-2008
Well I still consider myself very new to all this really, but I think that often, quite by accident, they get some of the things right.
But I don't think we should tell them!

I say amen to that I enjoy the silly people running in circles

There is an awful lot of truth to be had in movies and games ...the only trouble is you have to be selective about what you atake on board.
For instance I am pretty sure the Vampire House sigils used in Vampire the Masquerade and the Blade movies are all real.
Even bits of books like Harry Potter are real and there is a lot to be learned from the Hitch hikers guide to the galaxy books.
Even Star wars and Star Trek have some major elements of truth in them.
You could try also The Serpent and the Rainbow and The Emerald Forest

wgere do you think this truth came from. Is one of us pulling the strings or is it luck

Vampire Masquerade is a game its not really something to jump the moon over. Yes it is a cool game. But vampires are not like the RPGs or movie their more to them than that. I believe anyway
ComeToMe- 05-16-2008
You are right Aziz Mare. There is much more to Vampires than is portrayed in books, games and movies.
But I also think that Faith has a point.
There have been times when I have seen things in movies and books that I know to be the truth, and I have wondered if the person who wrote it into the script knew that it was the truth or if they just happened upon it quite by accident and are completely unaware of having hit upon a truth.

I love those films DA.
I must say there may be alittle truth to the films and books, but on the whole it's not much I don't think. Folklore inspired writers and the like to change the ways of how vampires where percieved, it's only now, thanks to Bram Stoker, Rice and the like that why have the image in the films today.
The garlic and daylight thing most likely came from the disease "porphyria", which would have helped introduce these myths and folklore tales as garlic and the suns light caused irritation to the skin, and it was believed that a cure was to drink blood.
There are too many old stories passed through time some of which do have some truth i'm sure, but I couldn't say how much.
The image seem today is one that people often fall in love with, beautiful creatures with a dark side and a lust for blood, and as we know, not all vampires are beautiful or feed on blood. I must say, I am fond of the romantased image that has been created, much better than the ones of old.
I do often wounder the same question as you and CTM, but they are probably unware of the truth and only writng what they write to play on people's fears.

How many times have we read a book, and then seen that they have made a film of the book and thought it would be a wonderful film, because the book was wonderful, and then been bitterly disappointed because book and film are nothing like each other or the film has significant bits missing?
That is how I see real Kin life and books/films about it.
They may be based on reality without necessarily having anything in common, expect the first basic idea.
True some have a germ of truth in them, but it is never much and makes very little impact. We may see it because we already know what we are watching for. They do not see it, because they have no clue.

i think its all a bit of artistic lisence when it comes to writing books and making films about otherkin.
people are drawn to an image, and expect to see action and sometimes gore, so the writers have to stray a little from the truth to keep an audience interested.
or it may be just that writers are playin on folklore like GD said because these stories though untrue have been sewn into our cultures

I think you're right there terri.
I also have a feeling most of us would be a big disappoinment to them.
