Fallen One- 07-24-2008
As Otherkin myself I appreciate that I say things that I could not prove if I was challenged.
And I do not think I am the only one who knows that each and every one of us takes the others pretty much on faith and the understanding that we are all in the same boat as far as claims and proof are concerned.

But I was wondering if, even knowing this, there was anything that would push you beyond your limits of things you could possibly believe?
What, if anything, would make you have to say 'whoa, that's not really possible'?

I think I am fairly accepting of what other people wish to believe themselves to be.
If they are not doing any harm and not pushing their ideas down other people throats, then I cannot understand anyone having a problem with anyone else's personal beliefs.
What makes me stop and question is someone who believes themself to either actually be, or be descended from a fictional character. A prime example of this is anyone who comes onto a forum and claims to be Dracula or be the son of Dracula, or even more silly, who claims to be a personal friend of the 'real Dracula' and says things like "Oh I'll have to tell Drac about that, he will laugh!"
I am not saying I would challenge them or be rude to them, I wouldn't, because they are not harming me or anyone else. I would leave them to their beliefs, but I would not find it as easy to take them seriously.
Does anyone else find this with this aspect of others, or perhaps you have something of your own that makes you pause for breath before continuing on?
If you do I would like to hear about them.

I don't do well with believing in fiction-kin either. I also don't do well with things that break scientific laws....like physical shapeshifting. I don't need scientific proof for otherkin...that won't happen, but if someone claims to be or to be able to do something, on this plane, that breaks the laws of this plane....I'm a non-believer. On that note, I also have a really really hard time believing in genetic-kin...those people who claim to somehow be biologically and genetically otherkin.

hmm im pretty open minded about it all, but there are curtain things like people saying they can changed objects into other things and that sparkly dust comes out their fingers like Serbrina the teenage witch or some load of *Bunnies*.

others include people who say they are the devil or son of the devil or have come straight from *Milton Keynes* to claim your soul, i just cant get my head around it

I am reading your answers and nodding such a lot in agreement with all of your points.

I think that the unbelievable I can handle quite easily but the downright impossible I have a great deal of trouble accepting.

Though I do try and give a little bit of lee way to the obviously young and uncertain, as they often only have the comics and books they've read or even sometimes the movies or cartoons they've seen to draw any experience from. What I try to do is listen to what they have to say, explain Otherkin as I understand it and wait to see how willing they are then to drop the Yu-gi-Oh/Pokemon references and try and understand properly what they are claiming as their own. If they are only using the made up stuff as a way of connecting, understanding and sharing their own experiences then they will be able to see the likenesses but greater legitimacy of what we are telling them, and leave Moltrez Pokemon behind them for something better like perhaps a Pheonix. If they are really just pretending then they will argue black is white for their right to really be a Moltrez essence in human form! That is when I apologise for not being able to help them with this, and wave them a cheery farewell with an invitation to keep in touch and come back anytime if they think we might be able to actually help them in the future. smile.gif

A little patience and some understanding goes a long way I think, but really needs to be balanced by some realism and absolutely a good pinch of scepticism. Most especially with the people who believe they 'really are' an Elf/Vampire/Dragon etc, genetically in some biological way.

thats a good way to explain it Lady C. i have found people like that who get inot convosations with me and who are adiment that they can do these fantastic things.

i know we deal with the unusual and strange here, but there is a limit.

Oh dear, Pokemon! otherkin/lol.gif

I think I am pretty easy going, but there are two things that are guaranteed to get my hackles up.
One is the person who is so intolerant of others beliefs that they would just out and out tell you you are wrong! Because you don't think the same thing they do. That shows a lack of maturity I think.
One of my favourite quotes (and I probably should say mis-quotes here as I am bound to get the words wrong. Just go for the meaning and you'll be OK. smile.gif) is the one that says:
"There are more things in the heavens and on Earth Horatio than are dreamt of in your philosophy."
That to me means that just because I am not one or do not think like that, it means nothing. I cannot prove that I am right, none of us can, so of course I cannot prove that they are wrong. So I let it go and move on. Honestly everyone is entitled to live this life the best they can. When it comes right down to it, we are all just bumbling about trying to live another day.

The other one is the person who comes on and says
"when I am in my Astral form and not bound by this human body I can control the Universe. I am the most powerful being EVER and you cannot argue with me because if you do I will get cross and call you fluffy and say mean things and generally throw a tantrum!"
Please get over yourself, this is not a my power is bigger than your power situation, and if they can't see that then that's a shame for them. (I also privately think that it is a very non-kin way to think, to have to be the most important anything there has ever been, but then I am a very new Pegasus and have only been awakening for about a year, so what do I know?)
Other than that I haven't come across anything that bothers me over much.
Even the Pikachu kin are generally just harmless kids who don't really know any better. They don't mean any harm, and are probably some of the most accepting of people, asking nothing much except to be listened to, and who doesn't want that?
Nah, the ones I have trouble with are the Grand High Pooh Bah's who want acknowledgement for being something they cannot prove and acceptance for being more important than me just because they say so!
No thanks. otherkin/sad-smiley-056.gif
Kids eh???

Too much?

The people who read my thoughts/words/posts on MY kin-ness and decide that because I set myself apart from non-kin that means that I don't consider myself human at all.
That the fact that I think I am different from non-kin means I think I am better than non-kin.
That I am 12, and stupid.
That I don't know what I am talking about.
That just because they have been awakened for 2/4/6/even 8 years they obviously know more than I do about being kin.
That I am making it up because I don't see Otherkin-ness the way they do.
That because they are 22 and know all about it, and my way of thinking doesn't agree with theirs, I must be thinking wrong.
That 6 years is a long time to have been awakened and aware.

If only they knew how little they know.

I know I am human, on the outside.
I know I am better than no-one, but I am like no-one else, except for the fact that I am unique, just like everyone else.
I am not a child, if they are twenty, I am twice their age!
I am not stupid, I have a college education.
I have a good job, and the pay is not bad either.
I have been aware of my Otherkin-ness for twenty years, and Wiccan for almost thirty, and live comfortably with both of these and everything they mean to me in my everyday life.

I am older than you Moon.
As for the rest we have nothing to prove to them.
They will get older, and as they do they will learn new things that's inevitable.

As for how annoying you find some of them, think of it this way. We were just like them once. And very soon they will be the older ones and we will be the young ones with the fresh ideas and annoying attitudes.
Don't you just LOVE re-incarnation? otherkin/687.gif

People who say that Unicorns have wings. I must take several breaths before moving on from those people.

InDarknessBeWere- 07-29-2008
People who say that they can make themselves physically into their animal type when they are in a human body.
Physical shifting is not one of the things I believe in. That is the thing that is too much for me.
Honestly, yes, perhaps simply because I cannot do it, and I have tried. otherkin/lol.gif
But also because I do not see how it could be physically possible.
I would not argue with them as such, but I would ask them te tell me how it could be possible, and if they actually could do it I would expect them to be able to explain it to me.

Darkness.
