Okay, so this is my question:

Are there ways to "undo" a spell, or is it so that once you have done it, it's done...?

I mean, obviously if it was of the instant gratification sort then it likely wouldn't matter, but if it were a long-term or "permanent affect" type of spell...such as a protection spell or a spell to bind something....would it be able to be "undone" in such a case?

ElvinDreams- 09-20-2008
It depends entirely upon what you mean by 'undo' Airelinn.
If you mean is it possible to cast a spell and then make it that you had never cast that spell, then no that is not possible. However if you are talking about stopping a spell or reversing a spell, then yes that can be done, but how would depend on the type of spell you cast.

If it is a quick action spell, one hit and it's done, then you would have to cast another spell to reverse the effects of the first one.
If it is a long acting spell designed to take effect over time, changing things gradually, or a spell that must stay in place to be effective, like a binding or protection spell, then you could simply stop doing the spell. Dismantle the constituant parts and thank whichever deities you were using to help you for their assistance, and say 'this spell is ended'. This should end the spell and allow things to return to the way they were before you cast the spell.
But as a bell cannot be unrung, a spell cannot be unuttered. Once the words have fallen from your lips the consequences must be faced and dealt with in some way or another.
I hope this answers your question.

Yes, that definitely helped...thank you so much...

When i first read, "it depends on..." I was like, "oh no...." because that's often all the answer I get followed by another question, haha! Thank you for explaining to me what you did, tho...
I'm kinda' a hater of one-liners, lol!

Thank you, again!

That's one of the good things about being here, when you ask a question someone answers it, and they're not afraid to tell you what they know.
They're also not afraid to tell you if they don't know.
That's quite a new one for me too.
Places like the ones you're talking about I've been a member of too, they ask you lots of questions because they don't know the answers to yours and don't want to say so because then they'll look stupid.

OK that made it look like I was saying that here they're not afraid to look stupid, but that wasn't it. It was supposed to be a compliment. The compliment is still in there somewhere, I'm sure it is. smile.gif

If I squint a bit I can see it hiding behind a small bunch of parsley! otherkin/lol.gif

I know what you're saying, and I think it's right too. Though, I'm sure there are lots of people who would disagree with what they say and even the fact that they say it.
Most of them because they don't understand how it's done or can't do it themselves, but some of them because they don't think things like that should be said on a place like this. Some people want the truth about Vampires and Weres and stuff never to be talked about, because then it makes us all seem scary and larger than life, but talking about it and treating it like just another day to day thing, makes them seem less all powerful and scary. Some people don't like to have all the mystery taken out.
That's what I think anyway.

Some people don't like to have all the mystery taken out.

Many people don't like to be asked questions because they don't have any real answers, or they want to appear as mysterious and in-human as possible because that's what they think is most impressive to others. They think if they claim to have great powers it makes them look more intimidating and important.
Basic, down to Earth answers, are much more useful to the person asking the questions, but they're not as impressive to any impressionable members who might read their reply.
Which do you think is a more mysterious reply to the question "Do you know anyone who runs a Vampire clan?"
A simple yes/no?
A couple of names?
Or a post that says, "I have a list of contacts, but of course this whole thing is so secret I am not supposed to tell anyone about them, so I can't give you any more information".

Of course they might really want to help, but have nothing to give, and not daring to say that they don't know because it makes them look less impressive, they make something up, which is a shame because this kind of thing isn't even helpful to them. It makes them look foolish to those who know the truth. Eventually even those taken in at first will realise that they are actually getting nothing useful from them, and then they are left feeling even worse than they did before.
Unfortunately for people like this the truth is that people who are not enough as themselves will never be enough as Kin no matter what kind.

Well to be honest if you know information that you are not at liberty to share, then you ought not to mention it in the first place.
Keep your mouth closed about things you can't talk about.

I understand what you're saying Airelinn, but unfortunately sometimes when people ask a question they are pretty vague about the circumstances, and if you want to give them a useful answer then you have to ask questions yourself, so that you can get a clear enough picture of what is going on to be of some help.
I know that sometimes they can't help but be vague, because they don't have a way of explaining things properly, they have a hard time finding the right words, but guessing is no good, that won't help anyone. That's when sometimes, asking questions will help them find the right words to give you more information, and of course the more info you can get the better your answer will be.
