I think there have been floods in the past and big ones at that but not a great flood that wiped out all of humanity. Actually to be honest I know that it didn't happen to be honest.
I think the story writers just used a flood to try and explain the disasters that they were aware of but couldn't fully explain.
Giving them the benefit of the doubt they might have considered a tsunami caused by a meteorite hit to have been a great flood.those kind of tidal waves are enormous and very fast, usually moving a long way in land.

There have been some pretty huge destructive events that nearly did destroy all life on the planet, mostly they were volcanic eruptions but a couple of meteorite impacts came close a long time ago too. The la-*test*-('") one a super volcanic eruption managed to wipe out all but 4000 humans so the 7 billion humans out there now are all related to each other by only 4000 people. that means that each survivor is responsible for 1,750,000 offspring .....ooooh what a scary thought.

There is documented evidence of widespread floods at this time, but nothing on the global scale they speak of.
I'm certain they could not have missed it if the evidence had said it was a planetwide monumetal event.
So although 'The Genesis Flood' is one of my favourite bible stories, I do believe it is just a story.
I think I would have to guess at a Tsunami tidal wave as the cause of the flood, and like Zygo I think it was probably the hit of a huge meteor that caused the Tsunami.
Your maths scares the *Milton Keynes* out of me Zygo. The human race certainly has caught up quickly hasn't it?
I wonder how many there would be by now if these natural disasters did not keep happening.
Now THAT is a scary thought!

Only 8 billion Abandoned Faith. There is also Documentede prove that teh Earth can only Physically sustain 8 billion of us before it can's take it anymore loses it's resources and dies. Also Zygo I thought there were only 6 billion on the face of the Earth.

Your right Wolfbrother (just like that) it's not quite 7 billion but it is nearer 7 than 6 so I rounded up a bit.

I don't think it will be long before it is 7 billion though.
the la-*test*-('") figures I can find say 6.6 and a bit billion.
so taking that sum again we are still looking at 1,650,000 each, thats still scary.
I didn't know anyone had done any research into just how many she could sustain but I guess it has to stop somewhere.

Well since this is in The Fallen section of the forum, I suppose I should give the bible version of The Great Flood.
I am not a great fan of the bible, and I find the term Angel personally doesn't fit me and never use it to describe myself.
BUT ...
The story goes that The Watchers watched, and whilst watching fell in love.
Defection swiftly followed, and soon after that came weddings, wedding nights and offspring.
The offspring were monsters who reeked havok across the face of the good earth God had made, bringing devastation to every corner of the world and making God very angry.
God sent a messanger to Noah to ensure that some of the things he had created would survive, and then loosed a Great Flood which swept across the globe carrying with it God's vengeance. Once all traces of the evil had been destroyed the rain ceased and the flood water began to subside.
The Ark came to rest atop a mountain and the peaceful world that God had made began again.
And everyone lived happily ever after.......Well not really, but there it is.

Now one faction believes that all the Nephilim (babies of Angels and humans) were destroyed by the flood, never to be seen again. The Naughty Angels were punished and the humans went back to their lives, sullied and ruined but wiser and more violent!
And some believe that the giants and ogres in Faerie tales through the ceturies are really surviving Nephilim, who were spotted by accident by humans who could not comprehend what they were actually seeing. Indeed many think that the Sasquatch or 'big foot' is also a Nephilim living in hiding in our midst.

Me?
Well I think a huge Earthquake on the ocean floor caused a tidal wave of huge size and wiped out a good proportion of the dry areas of the earth, and everything that lived there too. Then receeding almost as quickly as it came and leaving death and chaos behind it.

But who am I to say you can't believe in a man in a big boat with a little white dove and the future of the whole human race in his hands?
