and on a random topic that has not a lot to do with this thread(Sorry Lady C, love you! smile.gif )

I am so excited for the star trek movie to come out! haha. i feel like such a nerd but my dad was a trekkie (tho not the dress up trekkie style) so i grew up with it. and it makes me feel so lame and excited all at the same time! otherkin/lol.gif and i'm going to Vulcan, Alberta this summer and i shall soon be immersed in the nerdy world that is star trek! its going to be super cool in all it's trekkie glory. otherkin/687.gif

I hope you don't mind that I gave this topic a place of it's own in the Theatre Katie, but I am a huge Star Trek fan and didn't want to have it overlooked by leaving it on a thread that I had every intention of removing from the forum. smile.gif

I have always wanted to visit Vulcan, either the one in Alberta or the other one. otherkin/lol.gif
I am now green with envy and I want to go too..

Or at least see photos.. Pretty please. otherkin/687.gif

terri-vale- 06-27-2008
OOO yes lots and lots of pictures smile.gif and yay im not the only trekkie nerd!!!!

i was so proud of myself when i was 8 and i learnt how to do the vulcan hand sign.
now i want to go to a convention all dressed up !!!

InDarknessBeWere- 06-28-2008
Oh Star Trek is just the best Sci Fi programme I have ever seen.
It had a few bad moments like erm DS9. otherkin/confused-smiley-006.gif
What was that anyway?
Did anyone else like it?

The first series was the BOMB! absolutely fantastic, though I love S/T Enterprise too.
There are conventions every now and then in Birmingham terri. Maybe I'll see you at the next one? otherkin/687.gif

Ahh need a S/T smiley. otherkin/lol.gif

terri-vale- 06-28-2008
yes i willl definetly pop along and get all dressed up smile.gif
i hated DS9 i never got into it, and it was never as good, you didnt have classic lines like "number one make it so..."

i think the origainal had cheese value, with all the little models and crappy phasers but it was just cult status

ComeToMe- 06-28-2008
But where would we have been without it?

There were tons of things in the original series that we actually have these days.
Guns that fire rays of intensified light, computers that have voice recognition and respond with a voice of their own too, electronic sliding doors that open automatically when they sense you are near.. The list is endless and amazing in it's variety. Even some of the things thought scientifically impossible in those days are becoming a reality now.
They were way ahead of their time, and I'm proud to have been one of it's first fans, though of course I cannot claim to be it's most avid nor it's most devoted fan, (Even though I DID once try to learn Klingon!) I have never dressed the part. Though I admire the dedication and sheer nerve of those who do. otherkin/lol.gif

And if I can be a Vulcan I will join you at the next convention guys, I have never been to one and would love to, just for the experience of it.

I think Scott Bakula made the cu-*test*-('") captain of a Starship ever.

He's gorgeous. He can boldly go wherever he likes as far as I'm concerned. otherkin/wink.gif

terri-vale- 06-28-2008
haha i agree, but i loved him more in quantum leap "OH BOY!"

ComeToMe- 06-28-2008
Ahh yes. No arguements from me.
The lovely eyes and super smile of the truly hunky Scott Bakula have brightened many TV moments for me. smile.gif

OH BOY! Indeed. lol

Katie- 06-28-2008
haha yay! more trekkies! i used to tape my fingers together so they would get strong enough and flexible enough to do the vulcan hand signal. i can now do it with both hands otherkin/lol.gif and i will take lots and lots of pictures. I loved the cheesy original (the soft light on all the pretty ladies faces that made them glow haha awesome) but star trek the next generation with picard is my all time fave. also watched deep space 9, voyager, battle star galactica (though that isn't star trek). but i'm pretty easy to please. if it amuses me i'm pretty much set. another good sci-fi is Firefly with it's movie Serenity. Its like cowboy/spaceship margarita.

and this is the best picard link ever.

would definitely do the star trek dress up deal. always wanted to be the klingon or vulcan or just a crew member with one of those tribbles. man those things were fuzzily cute with their manic reproduction rate.

terri-vale- 06-28-2008
OMG another serenty/firefly fan!!!

i love the movie and series, mainly becuase i am a massive fan of joss whedon and buffy smile.gif the madness continues LOL

Just make sure that your outfit is blue or gold Katie.
Never wear red, the people in the red uniforms were always the first to go. otherkin/sad-smiley-056.gif

I always wanted a tribble, I have a feeling all that trilling would get on your nerves after a while though. otherkin/lol.gif

I've never seen Firefly. It was on the Sky Sci-Fi channel, I'll have to keep an eye out for it. I love new sci-fi shows.
Thanks. smile.gif

i think i'd have gone for blue anyway. i like the scientists, and the fact that they switched which colors meant what between engineer/tactical and command throws me, then id really have to choose which i like better, original ST or STNG. so blue makes it easy.

and firefly was cancelled so you'd have to rent it. if you're in the states you can see the entire show for free on hulu.com but i dont think you can access it if you're out of the US (which i think is lame) but you can get the video Serenity anywhere, but it is much cooler watching the vid after you've seen the series. (I was so mad when they cancelled it! It was so original. foolish tv idiots.)

and joss whedon is definitely one of my favorite writers.

I would have given anything to be Mr Spock's right hand girl, but I'm not sure about any of the new series's of Star Trek.
Picard seemed quite old to only be a Captain, wouldn't you think he would have been higher up in the chain of command by his age? Or is that just me?
My main problem with this character was that he never went anywhere. He just stayed put and let his second in command do all the work.
I ask you, what kind of a Captain is that?
"You go and do all the dangerous stuff chaps and I'll stay here in this lovely comfy chair, and watch it all on this big screen where it's nice and safe. Oh and by the way has anyone got any popcorn?" LOL
Kirk led from the front, and if there was any trouble you could guarantee he'd be in it up to his neck, and sometimes deeper. otherkin/687.gif otherkin/687.gif

I saw one of the movies, it had Whales in it.
It was very good if a little bit odd.

But I haven't seen any of the TV shows. At least I don't think so.
