Has anyone ever been to see a Spiritualist/Psychic Medium, for a reading or a show?
What do you think about them in general?

I have been to a couple of meetings, and I am torn between believing they could do what they said they could, or they are just really gifted at making things up and making educated guesses.

Some of the things they said were true for the people they were talking to, some so true that these people were in tears and left convinced that it was their loved one they had been in contact with. But some of it was so random, or so general that it could have applied to anyone to some extent.
I'm writing this and I am still no nearer to figuring out whether or not I believe.

Darkness

I have been to a medium. A professor's wife actually. She told me things that she could not have known had she not actually been contacting a deceased loved one or been pulling information from something like the Akashic Records. In general, I believe in psychics and mediums, but that's not to say that I believe they're all "real" so to speak. You migh find the book The Afterlife Experiments by Gary Schwartz to be an interesting read.

I have seen and heard some excellent mediums and faith healers, spiritualists and psychics. I have no doubt that some of them are the 'real deal'. They have information that in many cases they simply could not be faking.
However in my opinion Gary Schwartz is not one of them.
I have read some of his work, and I disagree with him on many major points.
Although I do believe that it is possible that Non-Kin souls do live on after the body dies, I do not believe in Non-Kin re-incarnation. And so I did not really receive anything useful from this book, however those who do believe in non-kin re-incarnation will probably love it.

If you want an excellent example of his kind then in my opinion your best option is John Edward. His Television programme, 'Crossing Over', is excellent, and he has written several good books, including After Life, One Last Time and an audio CD called Understanding Your Angels which tries to help you learn how to use meditation and visualization to help you contact your spirit guides. He takes you through step by step meditation techniques and I find him to be the most authentic Spiritual Medium operating today.
Of course others may have different views, but these are mine.

John Edward tells people about things he doesn't ask them.
You can tell he knows and has been told that, not that he is guessing.
He says things like there was a health issue with the heart ..not did he have an illness.
Or on one occasion gave the family specific directions to a little stash box the Father had left behind for his family. which were of course proved right.

Brilliant man, I respect his work very much.

I have to say in balance however, that Derek Acorah worries me more than a little...I can't say I am very impressed at all.

I love him. I am so impressed by his gift.
I know that just like many others he makes a very good living doing what he does and selling books and making TV shows, but unlike all the rest he actually seems to have some genuine ability aswell.
And whilst the first things on the list are very common having the last one does appear to be a very rare occurance in the world of the average Spiritual Medium.

Derek Acorah?? Is he the one that used to be in Most Haunted?
The one from Liverpool?
He is creepy.
He was too often overtaken by the evil spirits that he said resided at the locations they visited. If he was any good at what he did he would have made sure he was well shielded and protected, and the possessions by evil spirits would never have happened.
