I want to buy a pendulum, and having looked around I have found that there are lots of things they can be made from.
Semi-Precious stone...Crystal Quartz/Amethyst/Rose Quartz/ or almost any of them actually.
Brass/some other kind of metal.
Wood of some kind.
Glass.
So I was wondering if I could get some advice please on which would be the best material to have a pendulum made from.

Thankyou very much.

I think Crystals would have the advantage of looking awesome. However, I simply think all crystals are cool.

Best materials to make a pendulum out of?

I think it would be up to you, Lady C, as it is used to amplify yourself. Personally i would choose silver or wood, probably ash, for my pendulum.

For the most part of my own personal experience, I've always gone with a crystal, mostly quartz of any kind, though I personally prefer using rose quartz (I love the color, just beautiful). But when it comes down to it, it's just all up to you, and what feels good in your hand or to your personal touch.

It would depend on what you wanted to use the Pendulum for, as some materials are better at certain things than others.

Crystals for instance can dowse particularly well for future happenings, and metal pendulums are very good at finding lost objects. Wooden ones are more accurate when divining pregnancy in humans or animals, and are also very useful for finding water.

So if you do not know what you might wish to dowse for then your best idea would be to have one of each of these materials. They are not expensive objects, even for a very good one, and do not take up very much space. They look decorative, and do not require any maintainance except perhaps an occasional cleansing and recharging, which can be easily accomplished by hanging them in the sun for a day.

Oh, I never thought about the different materials being used for different dowsing.

Thanks.

well when i brought mine, i just went for the one that i was most attracted to, teh one that drew me in.
its made of coloured glass and i think i picked it because i liked how the light shimmers off it.

picking a pendulum is all down to personal preference. for dousing i dont think it matters what its made of as long as you have a strong connection to it. i mean ive used a ring on a piece of string before lol

I've got one thing add to the pendulum ponderance.

If you want to use it outside don't get a wood one. There is nothing wrong with wood, it works beautifully but they dont work well outside, unless you have a huge pendulum, because wood is too light and the wind takes it making reading the answers next to impossible.
The little brass ones work well outside because the weight for size ratio is quite high. And (yes I know I said one thing) look out for the type of chain it is dangling on because a curb or belcher type chain can influence results.
The best ones that swing most freely are generally on a bath plug type chain with the little ball like links.
they have a round linkage that can move in any direction whereas the others tend to hinge and throw the swing in one direction.

Why Ash Katie?
Just curious.

Thats good practical advice Zygo thankyou.
I hadn't thought about the wind blowing it, or about the influence of the way the chain moved on the swinging of the pendulum.
