With one last lick on his mate’s cheek,
he joins the pack.
They cluster together and roam around,
Searching for the prey that has once again escaped.
He bolts forward and leads them in their search,
The tallest and boldest of them all,
An alpha in his own right.
They reclaim their prey, not food but for play,
A strange inanimate object.
The Pack had been playing before he had come,
But now the Alpha had joined,
Everything had changed.
They fling it in the air
And wrestle over who gets to claim it,
He watches them-
They fling their limbs around in an awkward display,
With strange vocalizations.
The plaything goes astray,
He watches,
It lands and abruptly.
Disturbs surrounding animals.
A gesture of apology.
A warning growl to the pack.
For he is the Alpha,
He retrieves.
He runs.
He ventures into danger.
For the sake of others-
He pushes them on.
The bell rings- time for registration-
“Great Frisbee game Nick”
“No problem Guys”
He joins his mate and wanders back to lessons-
Ears prominent and tail up high,
And he wonders…..
"Even though we’re a pack as plain as can be seen,
Do they ever see the wolf therian in me?”
I wrote this wilst my partner was playing frisbee with our friends and I was sitting there enjoying the sun. I saw them loose the frisbee all huddle together looking for it with my partner in front and they reminded me of a wolf pack so I just started writing, watched them and just let it flow.
Hope you like it.
ooo i like it! is he actually a wolf therian or was it just a flow to the pack dynamics you saw?

He's a wolf therian and I saw the pack dynamic build around him.
I saw a pack of wolves, also cats of various sizes, aswell as a playground group of youngsters.
And then of course the image you actually saw and described for us.
This pack dynamic happens so many times a day in so many situations, and goes unnoticed or at least unrecognised by most.
Great descriptive narration. Dragonslorefury.
Thanks Katie.
Funny you should mention the playground Elvin- my partner was left out of play in the playground because he always wanted to play a wolf and no one else wanted to play with him.
Pack dynamic is so common. Then again we are social animals so it makes sense that we'd form our own little packs. It's nice to be able to draw attension to our similarities towards other animals though.
I was watching a little girl feed some seagulls with bread crusts the other day and I noticed one adult seagull that was dominant and posing all the time then so busy chasing all the other gulls away that he left the little girls crusts open to one of this years chicks who succeeded in scoffing most of what was thrown just by keeping his head down and staying out of the way.
There could be an Aesops fable in there somewhere
