QUOTE (Terro @ October 01, 2008 02:27 am)
Whether or not we like the actual word, Otherkin is an excellent word, in my opinion to describe that which we are. I personally strive to reduce the negative connotations that it has (which I feel is a direct result of some of the more fluffy individuals in the community, and some communities which bolster false claims and ridiculous belief systems which defy accepted societal standards). Overall another thing that the Otherkin community at large can do to help itself out is to accurately use words for their meaning, I have heard many people use many words in the wrong ways, to the onlooker this only makes us look like the third definition on urban dictionary. We only really have text to discuss on these forums, which means we *must* use words for their correct definition.

I don't understand this bit. Sorry I just dont.

(Whats Furry?? I know furry things but I don't think you mean bunny rabbits and mice etc)

Ahh this is Terro saying that even though many of us here don't like the word Otherkin, it is actually an excellent word.

What I believe is that any word is only an excellent word if you either like it, would be willing to use it, or are happy to apply this word to yourself as a description of what you consider yourself to be. If you cannot or will not do these things with the word Otherkin then it is not an excellent word, it is just a word that has been mistakenly applied to you by someone else, usually in order to make you something they want you to be but you are not actually happy to be of your own free will. In this case what I would suggest you do is look at the word Otherkin and what it means both positive and negative. If you want to be what it describes then call yourself Otherkin, if you don't then dont'.
Whatever anyone else says you should or shouldn't do the truth is that you are what you believe yourself to be, and everyone else needs to just accept your right to choose and get over it. smile.gif
Fluffies are people who 'THEY' don't believe are real Otherkin. It is a demeaning and derogatory term used by 'THEM' to try and make everyone else think and behave the way 'THEY' think they should. If you step out of the box 'THEY' have put you in for a single moment 'THEY' will accuse you of being fluffy and having no real right to call yourself Otherkin like 'THEM'.
What I would suggest you do is try and think about how much like 'THEM' you wish to be. If you want to be like 'THEM' and are happy to act like 'THEM' then call yourself Otherkin and toe the line and you're all set.
If you're not happy to do that then don't.
All you need to think is that the truth is that you are what you believe yourself to be, and everyone else needs to just accept your right to choose and get over it. smile.gif

A Furry is someone who connects to their animal side like a Threian or a Were, but they also like to dress to represent their furry side. It is a whole culture and side of believing yourself to be non-human that many in the Otherkin community look down on and make fun of. Even though furries mind their own business, live their own lives and usually harm, look down on and make fun of no-one whilst being who they believe themselves to truly be on the inside. Many Otherkin unfortunately cannot say the same.
The truth is that everyone has the right to be whoever they believe themselves to be, and everyone else needs to just accept their right to choose and get over it. smile.gif

The last part of the quote sounds like someone said something he disagreed with and this is a not very subtle way of getting across the idea that he didn't like it.

Of course this is just what I read when I read it. Other opinions are available.
I hope however that my post answered your questions. smile.gif
