So i was wondering what the difference was between magic vs magick. is it just two different spellings for the same thing? like color and colour or honor and honour? Just wondering because i realize i write both for the same thing.... yeah. what do you think?

(and sorry if this is in the wrong spot, i just couldn't decide where to put it, so this seemed like a safe bet.)

and this is random and nothing to do with this post, but these icons rule otherkin/workforgold.gif otherkin/grouphug.gif

I personally have and do use both spellings without apology, but........
From what I understand the difference is more or less.........

Magick is: "Ritual magick used by Wiccans and Druids and such like folk in the performance of Magickal workings and spellcasting."

Magic is: "Performance magic usually seen on a stage for entertainment. Card tricks, slight of hand and sawing a lady in half." otherkin/lol.gif
I am sure that is not the only difference people know about and I hope someone will come and give another. smile.gif
But I hope this helps a little Katie. otherkin/687.gif

I am going to leave it here for now, but when it is quieter and the post has been answered as fully as you require I may move it to the Wiccan Wanderers section, if that's alright with you. otherkin/witch.gif

sounds good to me.

so....magic is illusion and magick is truth?

Hey I have wondered that and never thought to ask. otherkin/booboo.gif

And that explanation hadn't occured to me either, but it sounds so obvious now you've explained it Lady C.

And I love the way you have then gathered it into a simple sentence Katie. otherkin/687.gif

Ahh it's all so simple when you know.

In what you said Lady C, you are quite correct. Magick with the "k" at the end deals with practices with rituals and such that are done by those that practice witchcraft, in any of it's many shapes and forms.

And of course, magic without the "k" is basically what you see on state, what magicians do, with the whole disappearing acts, and others that Lady C described.

I can't say I have ever heard of it used in any other way or for anything else. What Lady C said has been been the way I have learned and used it for since I started learning about the craft when I was 11/12.

You have me completely baffled on that one Zygo, I've never heard or seen that form used before when referring to magick in any way, shape, or form. But then, that could just be another way to say it in another culture, but -shrugs- I could be wrong on that one.

Oh honestly all it takes is a teenager!!

Magick is ritual done by wiccans and such.
Magic is foolish and impressive, mind-stumping, awe-inspiring trickery, done on stage and off for public entertainment.
And Magyck is the stuff done on roleplay forums and in online wizards and warlock games.
Tut tut. I would have thought you would have known that Zygo.... otherkin/lol.gif
