Here is my post:
The Top Ten Of Elven Living.1 If you want to get it exactly right you should say either:
I am an Elf, or.....
We are Elves, or....
I am/we are Elvin, or....
I am/we are Elven.
2 We all look different and yet similar, just like all of you. Some
of us are tall, but some are not. We have varying shades of hair colour, (though I haven't seen many red heads). I'm told we are not all slim and slender, although I have never personally met an overweight Elf, we usually leave that to the gnomes! LOL.
3 The idea that all Elves are beautiful is not true, although most of them do have a mysterious attractiveness that humans seem to find irresistable.
4 In the myths and legends Elves are usually seen carrying a bow, and are assumed to be excellent bowmen/women. I'm sorry to have to break this to you but, I have known Elves who could not hit a barn if they were standing next to it let alone from hundreds of feet away. It looks good in the movies, but we all know what a huge false impression they can give.
5 It is fortunate for some of us that archery is by no means all we do. We have musicians/singers, artists, magicians, silver smiths, trackers/hunters, climbers, warriors, horse riders, weavers, teachers, and many other things. Also most of us are (or at least can be if we choose) accomplished thieves and pickpockets.
6 Also I should point out here that bows are not our only weapons. From youngsters our defence arts tutor will choose a weapon for us. He has watched us from babies and knows us well, he knows which weapon would suit us best and will teach us how to use it to the best of our abilities. Weapons include; bows (both cross and long), knives/daggers, staffs/staves, axes, and catapults/slingshots.
7 Although we can live for many years, often more than usual non kin, we are not immortal. Eventually we grow old and die just like all other living things.
8 We do not all have deity, we have free choice of this just as all others should, but we don't discuss it much. Mostly, in our opinion, religion and disagreements about it have caused far too many wars, and after much thought we came to the momentous decision that since we didn't want to argue about religion, we just wouldn't talk about it.
9 Of all the forest/woodland tribes (and there are many) it is we who are the tree dwellers. (Faeries and Pixies are the ones who live in flowers and under toadstools)
10. We do not fly. (If you want to live...Don't ask. Faeries fly and we don't!!!)
There, hopefully that should help you understand us a little better.
If you think of any questions I haven't answered already please ask and I will try to answer them for you, but only if they are sensible.
Blessings and Peace to you and yours.
Elvin Dreams.
This is great Elvin, but it brought up many questions for me too.
Like how does the tutor decide which weapon would suit you best? Is it a case of something you have shown an aptitude for, something you've shown an interest in, or is it more to do with the stature/height and body shape you have the potential to obtain in maturity?
Does the same apply to the skill you are taught or is that more to do with your family tree?
And what are your weapon and skill?
Do Elves actually have pointy ears?

You say you grow old and eventually die, but do you age? You know, get grey hair, wrinkles, aches and pains, that kind of thing?
Do you live IN trees or in houses built in trees?
Are Elves as big as a human? Taller? Shorter?
Do you wish you could fly?
Do you actually talk to/ride Dragons?
I would love to know more about you and your people.
I am so glad you moved this post over it is really good

I have to have my Moderator head on for a minute.
Elvin has rewritten this one Wolfie not just moved it.
You can't really copy and paste from one forum to another without breaching copyright.
The only time you can post something on more than one forum is if you wrote it before you posted it and made it public.
Elvins post is similar but not the same.
Back to me This is a great post Elvin and you have just reminded me that I promised to do a Phoenix one.
Thanks
Zygo
Thankyou Elvin.
The re-drafted version is well worth waiting for.

Thankyou for doing my job for me yet again Zygo, by pointing out the legalities of cutting and pasting work, (even your own) from one forum to another.

I will copy your post Elvin and place the copy in the Myth Busters section, leaving the original here for you all to post your complimentary comments on!

Lady C.
oh it looks like the orginal my bad again i must have been having an off day >_>
This is great Elvin.
But I've never met an ugly Elf, where do you hide them all?

I also want to know what your weapon is? I'm assuming all Elves are trained with one even if in adult life they don't actually use it? So what was yours?
Thanks Lady C for putting my post in the Myth Busters section.

The tutor would consider all those points before he made a decision. He takes time to get to know the student and asses where each of their special gifts and talents lie and what weapon they would lend themselves best to.

The skill is slightly different. Your family will have certain gifts and abilities that have been passed down through the generations, if you show an interest and aptitude for that then you will carry on the family tradition. However, if in the judgement of your tutor your special talents lay elsewhere, then he will raise this with your family and explain that in his opinion in order to fulfill your true potential you should be given the opportunity to study outside your family traditions.
If your family is willing then you will be given the chance to follow the path your tutor thinks most suitable. There have been few occurances of families not choosing to do whatever is best for the child, as most parents want their children to live as full, enriched and happy a life as possible, with every advantage that is open to them.

And what are your weapon and skill?
My personal weapon is the slingshot, although I have a good eye and an excellent aim, my left arm is not strong enough to hold a bow, due to an accident when I was small. And I am my clan's Medicine Woman, as was my mother, grandmother and in fact almost all the women of my family through the generations. And as, I am hoping eventually, my daughter will be someday.

Not really. Some can be slightly more pointed at the tips than say your normal average human's would be, but that is not true for the majority of Elves, and even those that do, well, they are definitely nothing like Mr Spock!

You say you grow old and eventually die, but do you age? You know, get grey hair, wrinkles, aches and pains, that kind of thing?
Of course human living means that is inevitable, so yes, we age, only much more slowly. Unfortunately we get wrinkles and aches and pains too.
QUOTE (DarkeDesire)
Do you live IN trees or in houses built in trees?
As humans we live in houses/cottages/bungalows etc etc, Elves don't live IN trees. (At least Darkness sometimes does over the warmer months, but then she's a little odd and sometimes does that when she is in a human body too!!!) Some do build houses in the branches like children's tree houses only bigger. But mostly we build houses near to/adjoining the bases of the trees and in the hillsides, or wooden cabins in woodland clearings.
QUOTE (DarkeDesire)
Are Elves as big as a human? Taller? Shorter? |
Elves come in all shapes and sizes, but mostly we are taller than humans, though not by much.
QUOTE (DarkeDesire)
Do you wish you could fly?
Oh good Goddess no!
I have never wanted to have wings. They would be a great inconvenience when I'm hunting, and I'd never be able to keep them clean!
QUOTE (DarkeDesire)

I do not have the ability to talk to Dragons, it is something they have to grant to you and not something given lightly by any of them. Darkness can, she was blessed, (through her grandmother) with this gift. I do not know if she has ever ridden a Dragon and I don't want to know. For the same reason I would not want to know if she rode a motorbike! I'm her mother and my poor nerves could not stand it!

I promise I'll try and find the time to post up some more info here about myself and my people, and if you can think of anything specific you want to know in the meantime, please ask away and I'll do my best to answer your questions.

I am having a bit of peace and quiet right now, the hunting is not good, the weather is really bad and the herbs and wildflowers are in winter slumber, so I have spare time, an unusual thing for me.

However Spring is in the air and will be here before I know it, and from mid Spring until after Harvest in the Autumn I'm run off my feet!
But I'll still try and find the time to post here, though they may no be very long posts.
Now I'm just a kid so I haven't grown old on my own to find out but do all kin age slowly or are you just lucky
Wolfbrother
I don't think it's simply a case of good fortune, I believe that the Kin essence does help the body to age slower, not just in Elves either.
