Has anyone here read any of The Book of Enoch?

Does it give facts or just tell the truth as the bible sees it?

The parts I have read have a religious base and really don't talk sense at all.
putting all the heaven and Milton Keynes stuff aside they say in one chapter that giants devoured all mankind then in the next one tell how Azazel taught men to do stuff. otherkin/busted.gif
I think its a load of cobblers ...even when I am trying to be diplomatic I think its junk.

Incidentally if we were all decended from one family we would have died out in less than three generations through in breeding ...as would every other creature they are said to have saved.

and having read a bit more the guy (Enoch) has to have been as high as a kite.
I love the way he says Angels told him all this, it must have been so that people would take notice of him.
I think he just did too much peyote and hallucinated the whole thing.

Was it Enoch who was promised by god that he would be made into an angel named Metatron as a reward if he did all that he was asked?
Or am I thinking of someone else?

No, you are correct.

The story is that Enoch was a teacher, a scribe, and leader of his people. Living around the time of the great flood (he was Noah's great grandfather), he had visited Heaven more than once. But one special night, two angels woke him up and carrying him on their wings they showed him all the areas of Heaven he had not see before. He even visited the rebellious angels known as the Grigori, and somehow succeeded in bringing them closer to God.
After this he was taken by the Angels Gabriel and Michael to God's Throne. There for some reason never explained, God revealed great secrets to him, (some of these secrets even the angels didn't know!) These included the secrets of Creation, how long the world had left, and what would happen after the world came to an end.
Enoch, using his skills as a scribe, took everything he had learned and put it all into three hundred and sixty-six books. After this Enoch returned to earth for a time, to share with everyone all he learned.
But he was only allowed thirty days, after this time the angels returned him to Heaven.
That's when his divine transformation is said to take place.
When all the wisdom he had been given caused him to grow to the size of the earth, God attached thirty-six wings to his body, and gave him three hundred and sixty-five eyes, each as bright as the sun.
His body became celestial fire -- burning with a glorious flame.
Sparks sprang from him, and storms with whirlwinds and thunder circled about him. He was dressed in magnificent robes, given a crown, and a throne, (which was said to have been set right next to Gods own throne).
Heavenly heralds proclaimed that he was now no longer Enoch, his name was Metatron, and that, as second only to God, he must be obeyed by all the Angels.

The 'Book Of Enoch' was originally a part of the bible, but was later excluded (along with many other writings) because of it's controversial nature. In fact it infuriated one of the later Church fathers so much that he actually condemned it openly as heresy, so the book was denounced, banned, and no doubt burned.
Lost and conveniently forgotten for over a thousand years rumors of a surviving copy proved more than true when three copies were found perfectly preserved by the church in Ethiopia. First discovered in 1773 the copies were brought to Britain and in 1821 were translated into English by a Hebrew professor from Oxford.
How accurate the book is is in some doubt however, since over the centuries it has been translated from and to many different languages.
The form of the story now in the Book of Enoch was written sometime during the second century B.C. The earliest known text of the Ethiopian copy of the book was apparently translated from a Greek manuscript, which itself was a copy of an earlier text.
The original was believed to have been written in a Semitic language, which is now thought by scholars to have been Aramaic, but the true date of the original writing upon which all subsequent copies must be based is lost in time.
Though these days many historians are of the opinion that although old, (fragments of it were found with the Dead Sea Scrolls proving that it pre-dates the given time of Jesus Christ!) the book (no matter which form you are discussing) could not possibly contain the authentic words of Enoch. Looking at the timeline given in Genesis he would have lived (and died) several thousand years too early for that to be possible.
Despite it's unknown true origins some Chrisitians have accepted this book as authentic scripture. In fact there is enough proof throughout the bible that Christ approved of the Book of Enoch that some Theologians even believe that Jesus read this book and was so impressed that he based some of his teachings on the things he read there!

You can make up your own mind by reading it online. Here is a link to the la-*test*-('") translation posted on the WWW.
BOOK OF ENOCH

Facts about this book are scarce and proof of its true antiquity is waiting to be discovered by some hardworking, unappreciated scholar.
Perhaps once it's true origins are discovered, it's true meaning and reason for existence will be revealed.
Or perhaps it really was just an ancient version of a dime store novel, read by the masses and mistakenly believed to be fact by our modern historians.
I mean let's face it, who knows what they will be saying about Harry Potter in two thousand years time!!!

I don't consider the writings in this book to be factual. I think it was one persons imaginative perspective of the happenings of that time.
Just as JK Rowling wrote about boarding school, with classes and teachers, friendships and rivalry, games and competitions. No-one ever disputes that such things exist and have existed for many years.
However the KIND of boarding school, with the array of lessons she writes about are not real. Teachers exist, but not teachers who pull living Mandrake roots from plant pots!!! Competitive sports are a fact of school life, but nowhere would you really find a quidditch team with broom sticks and a snitch.

JK Rowling took real life things and then gave them her own personal treatment. A magical twist on everything, which is wonderous to read about, but only factual in the most basic sense.
I believe that the writer of the Book Of Enoch did exactly the same thing with his literary work.
And since Enoch was long dead before this book was written I do not think it was his book at all. I would be interested in why he gets to take the credit. Perhaps it was simply because he was dead, and so if anyone said anything against the work, or threatened repercussions, the true author could deny all knowledge, disclaim ownership and blame a deceased person who of course could not be puished in any way?

And I love the idea of it being a holiday novel for a sunbathing tourist!!

does anyone know what happened to Enoch in the end?
did anyone finally realise what he was doing and ignore him or something?
