Just to follow up on a topic touched upon in the Interview with a Vampire thread, I found this interesting website.

Cells For Life

We are actually much closer to growing vital organs than many people realise.

QUOTE
Why should I store my baby’s stem cells?
Current research has revealed positive results in the treatment of a wide variety of different medical conditions including ischemic heart disease, cancer, spinal cord lesions, bone fractures, burns, strokes, multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, Huntingdon disease and diabetes. Other research into its use in regenerating organs, repairing damaged muscle tissue and tendons and helping create skin grafts for burns’ victims has also shown encouraging outcomes.

These claims that we can: re-generate organs, repair damaged muscle tissue and tendons, and create skin grafts mean that in the very near future growing entire organs and bodies of skin will no longer be resigned to science fiction novels and cinema.
We already have the technology to design and build machines called actroids.
See here:

And we are closing in on the advanced research necessary to give these mechanical people exact copies of real human blood, organs and skin coverings.
This is the far distant future almost within our grasp.

As Mr Spock would say "Fascinating".

I did yet more research ..I seem to be doing a lot recently smile.gif . Some years a go I read an article about the possibility of using inkjet technology to "print" organs so I had a look and this appears to be the la-*test*-('") work on the subject.

beating heart cells printed

and here is a bit more about it
with a picture of the printed cells.
