I wrote this description of myself long ago for a book that has never been written.
I have used it in a couple of places since then but always figured that since I wrote it the copywrite is mine, so who's going to complain?

So to quote me, about me..................
I chose Wraith as my name because that's what I am. A formless shifter and dweller of mists and shadows. It comes from what may be the oldest of all the paths. Dating back to times preceding civilization, when the spirit world was closer to the physical world.
A Wraith is a creature which, by manipulating all forms of energy can look very much like supernatural fire, water, smoke, mist, or can, by it's will, take the form of any other living thing it desires.
In early European writings, many recorded pagan beliefs stated that 'the Wraith is seen as a spirit of vengeance.
Said to be ghostly figures, Wraiths are considered rare for they consist of pure revenge.'
I am not sure about the whole 'a name of vengeance demon' thing, it makes me sound a bit like a bad guy from 'Buffy' to me, but I am definitely a shape shifter and manipulator of energy in all it's forms.

That is the Wraith which is me is a shapeshifter and manipulator of energy, and through the body can still manipulate energy, but because of the body cannot shift unless and until I leave the body and become my true self. Which, of course, has no true form or substance of it's own.

Maybe I should do a myth busting thingy on Wraiths. Although there aren't THAT many of us, and we're not generally very sociable, so if I do you may only have my view of Wraiths. For a little while at least.

When you say:

I know of a Wraith who is as you say not very sociable but he (I think he's a he) hangs about here quite often, being an aquaintance of one of my guardians.
He's not a bad guy either.

OK firstly Skeeve.
I appreciate the compliment, thankyou. But you should say Miss Wraith as my essence is female. As is the body at this moment.

Now Faith.

I can do all those things, but not all at once. (No-one likes a show off)

I don't believe Psychic ability comes from your aura, (or your chakra, your mind or anything else.) I do however think it is used through these mediums to cause different results and bring different gifts.
I believe Psychic ability comes from a spark of light/energy, the small fragment of the source that all kin carry within them. It can manifest itself as different psychic phenomena depending on how it is manipulated and through which medium it is used.
To explain a little, try to think of it like a radio which can be turned on and off at will and tuned to various frequencies. (Though of course only if you happen to have a clear copy of the operating instructions.)

If you don't know how to operate it (and most kin don't, at least to begin with) then unfortunately the reality for many is that you can either end up with a radio that turns itself on and tunes itself into the station it believes plays the best music.
Perhaps:
radio hey did you know.....you're an empath?
Or
radio kmz lets move this object with your mind and put it here instead?
Or you could end up with a radio that keeps fritzing/misfiring and tuning you into or out of the station you're trying to listen to totally at random.

Sometimes lying dormant and undiscovered for a lifetime.
Sometimes manipulated on purpose.
But most often appearing randomly and simply manifesting itself in ways which we find hard to believe and control at first, but hopefully later on at least learn to manage.
Though occasionally for some of us this manipulation becomes a great and useful gift, mostly we find it a hardship and a trial. Entailing a great deal of effort of will and the need to exercise enormous amounts of self control.
This is especially true of Empathic abilities, which can often be overwhelming, especially to someone unaccustomed to controlling it, or someone who is only just beginning to understand their gift. Often the only way to help yourself with this is to erect a barrier or shield that does not allow the feelings of others through. This protects you from their emotions and your own uncontrolled absorbtion of them. Later as you become more confident in this ability and more able to control it's effects you can allow the barrier to drop little by little. But this takes time and a great deal of practice.

This is a fascinating subject for me and I could talk for ages about it, so I apologise to you all who are reading this and thinking 'Doesn't she ever stop???'. Once the muse is on me I start to ramble!!

One question though:
When you say your true self has no form or substance of it's own do you mean you have no body? I mean no solid form at all, ever?
How do you and others of your kind recognise each other? If you can look like anything and anyone how do you know who you are speaking to?

OK that turned out to be more than one question, but I'd love it if you felt like answering any of them.

Katie, there is this to explain part of what I mean if you missed it:

Humans can never have a fragment of The Source, because they're not kin.

The few humans who 'truly' have pyschic abilities are really unawakened kin, and the rest use cheap magic tricks and slight of hand to lie to and fool gullible people for their own personal gain.

Skeeve my essence is female. Essence does not require form.
If you speak to anyone who has had a sex change operation they will tell you that in their experience the sex of the essence within has little or nothing to do with the sex of the body they are wearing.

Moon. I am living in a human host right now, just like you and the others here, but when this body dies my essence has no solid form.
When your host body dies your essence will look like a vampire, and when KillerSoul's body dies his essence will look like a wolf.....But mine reverts to smoke or a drifting fog or a shifting vapour, but no solid form until I ask it to. Then I can make it into any form I like, but once I relax my control I go back to being haze again. It is a useful trait and one that I have relied on heavily in certain unfortunate situations, but sometimes...... It's very lonely.
There are not very many others of my kind, but we sense each other the way we sense all kin. By their vibration.
Each being that exists vibrates on it's own frequency, and Wraiths can sense (and recreate) them all.

So you could copy anything. like if you were to mimic a werewolf and walk right in front of me I'd believe it?

That would depend on how good your senses are at picking up vibrations. If they were good you could tell that I wasn't what I appeared to be, but mostly yes, people are fooled.
Of course if I am brutally honest humans aren't looking for anything other than what they see, they see the human body in front of them, accept it totally and do not look deeper to see the essence within, and most kin don't have senses that are very finely tuned for this kind of thing because they don't have be, so my work is half done for me.
But I am quite good. I've had lots of practise and I confess there is a large spark of mischief in me that enjoys fooling those who say they can read the vibrations and tell you what you are in essence.
